Hi Debbie
Thank you very much for responding to my post. I've just spent the day at Register House in Edinburgh with Elizabeth Kewley Turner's grandson George Montgomery ( now 82 years young). We'd be really interested in seeing the writ, as Henry Lawson Kewley was my grandfather whom I never met. We've been looking through the census for 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881, and these show that the large Kewley family, including Elizabeth Kewley Turner stayed in St James Street as well. The mother of this large family Elizabeth (Lawson) Kewley was the daughter of Andrew Lawson, born ilegitimately in 1803. He was educated st St Andrews for 15 years before attending Edinburgh University by some mysterious benefactor. so we think that although his father didn't give him his name - he saw that he did okay financially and this possibly explained the large townhouse in Edinburgh. All exciting stuff! I'm just gathering up my notes - but I hope to get back to you soon. By the way - where are you writing from?BestEdith
