I am researching a line of KEYES who were in the Berkeley Co VA (now WV) at least by 1790 or possibly earlier.
There was a John W. KEYES b.bef 1765 (where? not sure) who had a son John KEYES b.c. 1782 Berkeley Co VA, d. 1853 Martinsburg, Berkeley, WV.
This son John KEYES m.1 Margaret POISAL in 1811 (2 sons), m.2 Anna Margaret LASHORN in 1816 (3 sons, 3 daughters).
A Goodspeed's biography of youngest son of this John & Anna Margaret has statements referring to his father John KEYES and grandfather John W. KEYES.Grandfather John W. KEYES was "one of the first settlers" of Berkeley Co, "having been one of the brave men who fought for American Independence in the Revolution".
At the same time these men are in Berkeley Co VA, there is a family of KEYES - Gersham, Humphrey, Thomas, Isaac - in Charlestown, Jefferson Co, VA (now WV) - these are the KEYES that has been traced extensively and everyone knows about.
My question is are these groups of KEYES who live basically same area related??
I can't help but think there might be a connection, even if it is distant.
