William Kidd, named as grandson in Mary Addaman Stevens' will, is the son of James Kidd and his first wife, who was an Addaman by birth. Her first name is not known and she apparently died when William was a baby or small child.Mary Addaman Stevens (her maiden name not known) married first Thomas Addaman and second Thomas Stevens. She was a major landowner in Mecklenburg Co VA.Her near neighbors included James Kidd, the Johnsons, and the Carters.
After the death of William Kidd's mother, his father James married second ca 1765 to Winifred Hudson. They had four known sons--James Henry, John, Zachariah, and Anderson R.--before Winifred died between 1787-1795.James Kidd then married Frances Robertson; they had no known children.
Son William Kidd married Judith Carter 8 Oct 1781 in Mecklenburg Co VA.Before 1800, they moved with other members of the family to Georgia, settling in the Oglethorpe Co GA area.
The association with the Carter family was a strong one evidently.
The known children of William and Judith Carter Kidd are:William, who married Nancy Carter; Mary, who married Edward Carter; Lucy, who married Johnson Wright; Elizabeth, who married Dean Tucker; Webb, who married Malinda (last name not known); and Carter.
I hope this is helpful. This family has been the subject of considerable Kidd research through the years.
