My ancestor John Kiely came from Boston in March, 1776. He had the misfortune of working for the British in Boston as a Tidesman (custom duty collector), which necessitated his evacuation with the British Army in 1776 to Halifax, Nova Scotia. In Nova Scotia he founded a long line of Kiely/Kiley's at Prospect, Nova Scotia (a small Irish-Canadian fishing village). Is he known to anyone? He left Boston, apparently, with a wife and two children, one of whom might have been named Thomas.
