I just read your inquiry regarding CHARLES MELVILLE KIKER, and immediately recognized him as a fairly close relative and member of the larger KIKER FAMILY in Texas. If he were here today, we might talk about his origins from KEICHER families in Germany members of whom migrated to the PA area in about 1750, then moved on to NC in the vicinity of Charlotte.
There, two brothers settled and started families, but the older brother moved on to TN while the younger, and the one from whom Chas. Melville Kiker and myself descend, remained until he had grown old. In about 1842, he moved to northern GA, where some of his several children had gone beginning in 1821, to take up land vacated by the removal of the Cherokee Indians.
In the 1850s, my branch moved to eastern AL while others went to the vicinity of Winston and Walker Counties, AL.My branch went through the Civil War in AL, then in 1870, moved to TX.After a two year stopover in McLennan County, near Waco, they moved to Erath County southwest of Fort Worth.
Your Charles Melville Kiker had his start in Erath County -- at least Chas. M. Kiker, Sr. -- the great grandson of my great great grandfather.
His son -- of the same name -- also married one of the McCleskey women as had his father.(The Kikers and the McCleskeys had become very closely associated since Alabama days.My great grandmother was also a McCleskey, but not closely related to either of the two McCleskey women who married the Chas. Melville Kikers [Junior and Senior], above.)
Through the efforts of Donna Kiker Liddell,Dick Kyker and myself, considerable information on the Kikers has been collected and can probably fill you in quite effectively on the origins of the two Charles Melville Kikers; however, we hold only a paucity of information on their descendants.
We would like to have that, of course, to add to the two CD ROMS Donna has produced from the information the three of us have collected. The CDs contain about 3000 pages of information on the family, and if you wish more information of their availabilty for $30.00, please contact Donna email@example.com.
We will be happy to share with you what we know, and, even if you do not wish to have the CDs, we will look forward to hearing from you anyway with what information and/or leads you may have regarding the descendants of either or both of the Charles Melville Kikers. Our interest is in collecting as much information regarding the Kikers and the other family lines connected with them by marriage and so on.
