Thanks for the posting James. I dont quite understand your opening paragraph, but I will try to dispell any doubts you have.
I am in process of contacting the land owner to get written permission to ingress and egress his property for the sole purpose of preserving the cemetery. I have already contacted the renter (sharecropper), and have permission to enter his field of cotton, which at this time is not harvested.
I have contacted the Union County Soil Conservation Service and obtained maps from 1938 which have the cemetery location clearly marked ( although by hand ). If I cannot get written permission from the land owner to ingress and egress his property, the next step is to contact the Clerk of Court of Union County, NC and request a court order to visit the cemetery ( as per NC law ).
My plans are definite and proceeding on schedule. My intention is to proceed until the cemetery is properly marked and certified with with Union County County Commissioners ( as per NC laws). The County Commission is required by law to preserve and protect all known cemeteries.
My final plan is to place a permanent grave marker on the cemetery site and register the site with the Cemetery Preservation Committee that is very active in Union County.
I agree that preserving our heritage is very important and am prepared to spend my time and resources to protect my ggrandparents resting place. I hope that you can do the same with the cemetery that you mentioned in your posting.
