Hello from another cousin. What a wonderful surprise it was as I was surfing Irish sites on the net planning a trip for next Spring - imagine running across two cousins at once.
This is John, Tom's younger son. My brother Fred is a retired (but still teaching) English Prof. at the Air Force Academy in Co Springs.
I echo Suzanne's comment "you dad, Ray was the greatest." I remember him when he'd come to visit our house when he was on leave from the Air Force - very handsome in his uniform, always smiling and joking and great with us kids, taking us places for ice cream and stuff. He was always sketching and drawing, too- like Suzanne, if I remember right.
Regarding Maurice and Catherine (Ma and Pa as I knew them): Maurice, his brother John (my namesake)and his sister Peggy (Margaret) came to the U.S. in late 1800's. Maurice worked for the city of Newton, I believe, John was a gardener on an estate in Brookline (I think). Peggy returned to Ireland to look after her father (Joseph) and stayed there until, she died. They came from a little "townland," almost just a crossroad, called Kilnefrehan which means, chapel in the heather. Kilnefrehan is in the parish of Kilgobnet which is near the coastal market town of Dungarven in County Waterford. My wife Donna and I have been to the "Kiley homestead" a number of times. It is just a little cottage in the hills overlooking the sea, farming country all around. I believe We were last there a year ago. By the way, our name there is spelled Kiely there. There is a wonderful lady who lives next door that we visit with, to whom you might write (she's about 80, I guess). Her address is: Bridie Fahey Kilnefrehan Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, Ireland
Her son Matt live a couple of farms away. The cottage was occupied for years by Nora Whyte who has since passed on and it is now occupied by a young man from England who has done a lot to update and impove it. We didn't get to meet him as he was traveling when we were there.
Ma (Catherine) Conway was from Limerick City. We went once a long time a go to visit a cousin of hers, a policeman who lived in a suburb of Limerick but, he was away so, I don't have as much on her side of things. I don't know who else in the family that would - perhaps cousin Leo, he's a police Lieutenant in Waltham.
I hope this is of some help. Please keep in firstname.lastname@example.org
