Anyone recognise this Mary Killip? or any of the other names here:
There are very few records of a Killip presence in Malew prior to 1800.
There is a monumental inscription in Malew Churchyard:
'Andrew Killip who died 20 September 1847 aged 80 years, also Mary Killip, died 21 July 1839, aged 91 years.'
Andrew is the same person who appears in 1841 census (and Grandfather of Boyer Killip for cousins in Illinois and Canada!) and his wife, Mary McComb survived him. Mary (b.1847) may have been Andrew's mother (at 18 and possibly illegitimate), an elder sister or an aunt. I have been unable to find any other records in Malew for a Mary Killip, although there other possibilities elsewhere in Man. The 1857 list of residents does not include any Killips and on that basis it is a strong possibility that Mary moved to Castletown, possibly before Andrew's birth in 1767. I suspect she may have been born in German, Michael or Ballaugh.
There is also a Will published for a Philip Killip of Castletown dated 10 March 1769 leaving his house, tenement and garden in Mill St, Castletown to his wife, Catherine Killip, als Kissag. I have no other records for these either - the two families may well be related - Philip and Catherine may even be Mary's parents (pure conjecture).
Has anyone any further information about Mary, Philip or Catherine?
If you are related to any of the Castletown Killips (quite a few in mid 19th Century), I might be able to link you to a number of relatives - please contact me.
