Hi Deb, I was pleased to find your posting. Willie Kilner was my great, great grandfather. He married Anne and they lived in Skelmanthorpe, South of Huddersfield. They had three daughters, Nellie, Hilda and Beatrice (my great grandmother). Beatrice died when I was 15 but she shared many family memories and stories with me, such as the family of six cousins who lived next door in Skelmanthorpe who would bring their dry bread around to Beatrice's parents to have dripping spread on it, as their own parents could afford none. Willie was a cottage weaver and, later, tailor. Beatrice married Herbert Higson, a builder. They had three children, Geoffrey (who moved to Canada in the 1950s), Leslie (who is still alive and very active on the Internet, though in his 80s!) and my grandmother, Marian. Marian married George Flather and they had three children, Malcolm, Nigel and Arlene, who is my mother. I took the Kilner surname after my recent divorce in preference to Flather or Higson, and wear it very proudly! Incidentally, are you related to my best friend from school, Fiona Delahunty? That WOULD be a co-incidence! Feel free to email me, would be good to hear more from you.
