I am interested in hearing any and all personal stories, anecdotes etc., about Joseph Melvin Kimbrell, my paternal great-grandfather (1878-1953). I've learned some of the broad strokes of his life from other family members, but would love to learn more details (my uncle has very vague memories of Joseph Kimbrell - my father has no memory of him at all).
As I understand it, after the death of his parents, he was taken in by an uncle who treated him and his siblings very badly. Any idea whether this was an uncle on his father's or mother's side?
Also - any information on his parents, Thomas Jefferson Kimbrell and Caroline Octavia Britt, would be greatly appreciated. What kind of lives did they lead? How were the family's lives affected by the Civil War?
