I am searching for information about my ggrandfather John Kimbrough.According to my aunt (who was the family "historian") and according to my grandmother's death cert., John Kimbrough was the father of my grandmother (Ollie Bell Kimbrough). She was born and lived in Independence Co., AR until after her marriage to my grandfather, James Monroe Falls. Her mother was Margaret (Jane???) Nixon.Ollie Bell had one sister for certain - Annie Mae Kimbrough who married George Hightower and lived and died in Independence Co., AR.
According to the 1880 US Census in Independence Co., AR there is an "A"?? Kimbrough (age 24; b TN; mother and father b. TN) with wife "Marget" J (age 25; b. AL; mother and father b. SC) and son William H. (age 7/12).Nearby there is an A. E. Nixon (recorded as Nircon but writing looks like Nixon to me) (age 49; b. SC) with wife Maltilda (age 47; b. SC) and sons Joseph (age 11) and John (age 3) and daughters Samantha E. (age 8) and Ellen A. (age 6).
Then in the 1900 US Census in Stubbs, Independence Co., AR there is an M(argaret??) Kimbrough (age 45) as head of house with daughters Ollie (15), Bert (11), Annie (7) and son James (4) and neice Mary Marshall (age 7).Nearby there is a Joseph Nixon (age 31) household and also an Almon Nixon (age 68; b. SC) with wife Mary Nixon (age 65; b. SC) and daughter Ella (age 26).
I wonder if this is the John A. Kimbrough that appears in the 1870 US Census (District 10, Jefferson County, TN).He is 16 years old and born in TN.He is listed with his father Enoch N. Kimbrough (head of house; age 40 b. TN), mother Prissilla (age 41; b. TN), females Margaret J. (age 18), Savanah A. (age 7), Sarah E. (age 4) and males Marion A. (age 14), Samuel J. (age 12), Moses J. (age 10) and James N. (age 2).
I was told that John Kimbrough abandoned his family (Margaret Nixon Kimbrough and children) at some point and never returned.
