Recently I found out the parents of my gg grandmother Sarah Monroe. The name "Monroe" I have found to be Highland Scot and of Celtic origin. And like other Surnames of that nationality it was brought from Ireland during the Middle Ages. From searching census records I found her parents to be Ransom Monroe and Catharine "Kines". They lived in Defiance county Ohio in 1850 and in De Kalb county Indiana in 1860. Both were born around 1827, He in Ohio, She in Pennsylvania. I suspected the surname "Kines" sounded Celtic and Irish, so today I looked it up in the surname book at the library. It only showed the name "Kine" which was listed as Irish. I suspect that would be no different with an "s" at the end. I suspect that "Quinn" is Irish too.
