The 1850 federal census for Nimishellen Towhship, Starke Co., Ohio lists this household:John Kimmell 52, Martha Kimmell 56, Lydia Kimmell 24 or 27, Hannah Kimmell 20, Daniel Kimmell 23 and also DANIEL KING age 10 and Martha King age 6.
We are unable to determine why my great-grandfather Daniel King appears in this household. His daughter later wrote he was raised by "Aunt Lydia (Kimmell) Wertenberger"--so presume this to be the Lydia mentioned above.
Could John and Martha Kimmell have had another daughter whomarried Daniel King's father, John Peter King, or might "aunt" have been a title of respect rather than relationship?
Daniel King, b. 1840, has been called an "orphan".However, since his father remarried when Martha King was very young, I assume Daniel's mother may have died either in childbirth when Martha was born or soon after. We have absolutely no clues as to who Daniel King's mother was or why these two King children ended up with the Kimmell family.
Does anyone have any further information regarding this Kimmell-King connection?
John Peter King, Daniel King's father, is reported to have been from Armstrong County, PA and I know there were also Kimmells in Armstrong, but this John Kimmell does not appear to have been one of the Armstrong County Kimmells.
