Philip King (1826-1903) was born in Germany a son of William King and Mary Louise (Fey) King. He came to America with his parents about 1832 and settled in Crawford Co., Ohio. Philip removed west to DeKalb Co., Illinois about 1848. He was married in 1851 to Elizabeth Coonfair (1833-1856), daughter of Daniel Coonfair and Elizabeth (Dawalt) Coonfair. Elizabeth had two children: William King and Mary Elizabeth King (Mrs. Samuel Baker). Philip King returned to Ohio where he married in 1858 to Maria Scott (1841-1917), a daughter of Solomon Scott and Rosa Ann (Lutz) Scott. Maria had seven children: Rosa Ann King (Mrs. Peter Read), Henry Douglas King, Margaret Jane King (Mrs. Elijah Vosburgh), Frank Preston King, Orilla Louise King (Mrs. John Wike), Laura Dell King (Mrs. Alfred Deverall) and Amelia Bell King (Mrs. Theodore Lawrence). Philip King is buried with his 2nd wife, Maria King at Mayfield cemetery in DeKalb co., Illinois. His 1st wife, Elizabeth is also buried at Mayfield. I am descended from Philip and Maria King through their son, Frank Preston King (1873-1961). Frank was married in 1895 to Nellie Leona Gross (1876-1958), daughter of Joseph Keithline Gross and Sarah Jane "Jennie" (Dimon) Gross.
