I am attempting to find any records of my great-grandmother (Eleanor F. Kingman) prior to 1870.According to surviving records (marriage and death) she was born on December 25, 1848 "in Cuban waters" (marriage license) or the "West Indies" (death certificate).
Since the "in Cuban waters" is from her marriage license I believe it is a more accurate description of the birthplace than the more generic "West Indies" indicated by her husband on the death certificate..
She married my great grandfather, Jonathan Homer Cheney in October 5, 1871 in Boston. It was her second marriage, her first was to an (unknown) Bartlett. Father is listed as Frances M. Kingman and mother as Eleanora Kingman.
I have followed likely leads in MA and there is a painter named Frances M. Kingman listed but cannot get it to fit other than the name.Requested info on consular dispatches from NARA but these apparently did not record births to US citizens abroad until the 1890's.
