George Kinloch of Jamaica and Arduthy, Stonehaven, died there on 22 April 1802, aged 60, according to his tombstone. He was baptised at Laurencekirk 11 Dec 1742, the son of William Kinloch, tenant at Easthill, Bent of Halkerton, and his wife Isobel Austin. They married 1 July 1736, she being of Fordoun parish, and they had four other sons.Isobel probably died between mid-1747 and 1750, because on 19 July 1750 William married again, Anne Morgan of Arbuthnott parish. They had three daughters and three sons, one of whom was Alexander Kinloch (bapt Mar 1758 at Laurencekirk) who made his fortune at Portland, Jamaica. These events and dates are in the OPRs.
William Kinloch appears to have been related to George Kinloch (c1680-1749) of Kair: the Mackenzie of Delvine MSS have a mention of William, who was in arrears of rent in the 1760s, being related to Catherine, George Kinloch’s daughter.
Proximity of their tombstones at Fettercairn suggests that George of Arduthy & Jamaicamay have been related to John K (1630-1690), who in turn may have been related to the Kinlochs of Gourdie. But no firm evidence has been found for this, nor for a link between John K and George K of Kair.
