Just read your message on the KINNA family forum. You say that your father's name was Charles KINNA, and your mother's name Mary and they came from Manchester.I have been tracking a KINNA family descended from my gt-gt-grandfather Thomas KINNA.
Thomas KINNA married twice - first Catherine WRIGHT, who was my gt gt grandmother, and had two children by her - Eliza, who married Solomon REID and ended up in New Zealand, having 8 children, and Michael Thomas KINNA, who married Margaret O'HARE, and died young in Melbourne, with no family.
Thomas' second wife was Julia MURPHY, and I believe that they had about 5 children - I haven't confirmed this yet, but am working my way slowly through it.One of the children was Julia KINNA, who married George BRIMBLECOMBE in Melbourne and emigrated to New Zealand.
Another was John Charles KINNA, born 31 May 1847 in Chatham Barracks, Kent.John Charles married Mary Ann VERE on 27 February 1894, in Salford, and died 25 March 1926 in Moss Side.Is this your grandfather? If so, then I have quite a lot of information about Thomas KINNA and his army career - I have traced it through the muster rolls at the Public Record Office here in London, right down to the two courts-martial for embezzlement!I believe that the family originated in County Offaly in Ireland - Thomas KINNA enlisted in the army at Birr in Co. Offaly, and my grandmother always told me that that was where the family originated.
Looking forward to hearing from you - would be delighted if we are in fact related!
