Cynthia: Thanks for your search and response. I have the original letter you found on the internet. The Dan Kirkley the letter was written to, in July 1862, was Daniel Marion Kirkley, b. 1832 d. Dec. 7, 1862 at Frederick Md. after having been wounded and captured at the Battle of Sharpsburg/ Antietam. His arm was amputated by a Union surgeon but he contracted typoid fever and died. His parents were Robert Kirkley b abt. 1805 and Nancy Gaskin Kirkley, b. abt. 1807. He had an older brother, James Marion Kirkley, b. 1830.
Daniel Charles (D.C.) Kirkley, b. 1844 is a different Kirkley, probably a cousin to the above Kirkleys.
Can you give me some info on yourself and where you fit into the Kirkley 'picture'? You can contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
