I have now had another look at my ancestor stuff and the Archibald kirkwood who married your Janet Brisbane is definately brother to my James Kirkwood (1812-1883) who married Martha Murray. I think Archibald was a coal miner and is apparently buried in Rutherglen Churchyard but although I am in Scotland, its not that close and I havent yet managed to go to Rutherglen to have a look for more clues!(although I keep meaning to)
The will of Archibalds father James Kirkwood (m Isabella Pinkerton) is 11 pages long and fascinating but gives virtually no info on Archibald (surprising as he was oldest son). He is not even an executor (They are Sons William and James and son in law James Pinkerton).
Its in legal speak, obviously, but I think I am right in saying his 'Carriers' business was left to youngest son William (b 1823) apart from some horses and carts which got left to my James. His wife Isabella, got run of the house until her death when the house etc was sold and divided equally between all the other children including Archibald. William was given an 8 day clock before this sale !!And the girls were given an annual allowance.
I have no confirmed info on parents of James Kirkwood and Isabella Pinkerton but for a number of reasons I think HIS parents might be Archibald Kirkwood and Marion Dun and HER parents James Pinkerton and Janet Young.
Did you have any thoughts or info on this? Do you have any record of Archibald in 1841 census as I couldnt find him.
