I’m the great grandson of Wilhelm and Marie Utecht. They had three children Albert, Emma and Wilhelm (died at 3 yrs). Wilhelm sr died (unknown) and Marie married Paul Klatte born 1861.
From Pequot Historical Society: First Hotel built in Pequot was built in 1889 by Walter Brown (Actual founder of Pequot) soon after the hotel was built it became known as the Commercial Hotel. In 1901 the hotel was owned by Paul and Marie Augusta (Utecht) Klatte.
In 1905 Paul Klatte sold the hotel to William and Bertha (Utecht) (Klatte) Strasburg. After William bought it he changed it to the Pequot Hotel, they owned it from 1905 to 1907. After that they sold it. The hotel changed many hands and eventually reverted back to Commercial Hotel.
By 1943 the hotel was disassembled and the lumber was used to erect buildings on land in Cullen Lake owned by the last owner Ludwig Mathison.
Paul Klatte was one of the first members of the city council 1902.I have photos from a newspaper that shows members of the first city council that includes Paul Klatte. Also in the same paper shows the Klatte hotel.
Where and when were Paul Klatte and Marie Utecht married? Unknown.

When moved to and bought a farm near Sanborn Minn. (Between 1890 and 1900)
When sold farm and moved to Pequot. Paper has it as Klatte’s owned hotel in 1901-1905

Maria and Paul then moved to Spokane and bought a Home there
Marie Klatte took care of Emmas daughter Cynthia crippling problem (Cynthia born in Sanborn MN 1896 died in Spokane WA 1982). Cynthia Marie, daughter of Emma married Arthur Lewis Carlisle 1915 in Pequot MN. This means that after this date is when Cynthia and husband moved to Spokane WA.
About this time the German Counselet wanted Marie and children to return to Germany. a great deal of land was suppose to be involved. No on returning. From the Web. A remarriage of a widower/widow was always documented in the Amtsgericht (Local District Court) stating in detail the estate rights of surviving children as well as rights and duties of parents and step parents.
Marie and Paul moved and homesteaded at Williston, North Dakota? In 1906, the Forest Homestead Act was passed. The Homestead Act of 1912 reduced the homestead requirement from five to three years. Based upon the dates between Seattle to Williston 1905-1918
When and Where did Paul die (Paul died 1918, Maria died 1920) Both at Pequot Village cemetery Not sure where Paul died but is buried in Pequot. Google Pequot Klatte to see headstones and land that was donated to Pequot lakes. Marie left House in Spokane to Emma and property in Williston, North Dakota to Albert?
Emma sold House to buy Dairy farm in Pequot. (Grave stone of Emma and her husband in Pequot village cemetery)
