I am searching for correct info on Johann, aka Nicholas Klee, who came from Germany in 1738 or 1739. A number of mysteries I'd be willing to do research to solve, and would appreciate any leads. Have discrepant info from two sources: 1. Biography of Johan Simon Clar by Larry D. Smith; contains many sources, including original sources and sme photocopies of documents, including his will, and 2. Klee/Clay Family of Bern (Centre) Twp., Berks Co., Those That Stayed by John H. Grimes, 1986, Womelsdorf PA. contains 6 non-original references and cites some original sources.
Coming to America Source 1. HNK came to PA with Johann Nicolaus Fisher (bro-in-law) and brother Johann Theobald Klee and families, 1738 aboard Glasgow. Source 2. HNK came to PA with father-in-law Abraham Staudt aboard Loyal Judith, 1739
Spouse Source 1. wife was Anna Catharine _____. Source 2. wife was Lisa Margartha Staudt, married 2.11.1738
Daughter's Place of Birth Source 1. daughter Anna Margaretha Klee baptized by Rev. Johann Caspar Stoever, source is "earliest Berks Co. reference to him" on MArch 9, 1741 Source 2. her birth and baptism was recorded in the Conewago Reformed CHurch records in York CO.
JNK Place of Residence Source 1. JNK resided in Manheim Twp, settled upon 200 acres, in 1763 sold property and purchased Lost 6 on Frederick Street, died there. Source 2. Nicholas can be found on earliest Bern CO. tax list in 1752. Naturalized as a resident of Bern Twp. in 1761.
JNK Death, Will and Burial Source 1. Nicholas buried 9/26/1776, according to the records of Emanual Reformed Church, Hanover, York Co. Will probated 11/9/1776 at York Co. Court House. One-fourth of estate went to daughter Anna Margaretha. Source 2. Nicholas Kleh's will (Berks. Co.) written 8/17/1757, probated 11/7/1763. Died 1763, buried Bern Twp but no tombstone known for him or wife. Left 12 kids.
Spouse of Daughter Anna Margaretha Source 1. Anna Margaretha married Johan Simon Clar/Claar/Klaar,who lived in Manheim Twp, about 1755. Source 2. Anna Margaretha married Matthias Albert of Salisbury Twp, Northampton Co. or LeHigh Co., before 1755.
Adding to the confusion may be that his nephew of the same name, born 1735 of brother Johann Theobald Klee, apparently resided in York Co.
Help! I've made clearing up these discrepancies a project, and can use all the help I can get. JNK was my gggggggrandpa, and daughter Anna Margaretha was my ggggggrandma IF she was the wife of Johann Simon Clar.
