S. Lawrence Kleve was born, 25 Mar 1885, to Lars and Gertrude (Fixin) Kleve.Lars was born on 2 Jul 1848, District of Hardanger, Norway.At age 27 he came to the US and laid track for the Great Northern, worked at logging and as a carpenter; bought a farm at Willmar, ND, where he farmed and raised stock.He died at Willmar, Jul 1919.Gertrude was also from the District Hardanger, Norway.Children of Lars & Gertrude Kleve: Thea (Mrs. P.G. Thorpe, Spy Hill, Saskatchewan), Edward T. (Willmar, MN), S. Lawrence (Wolf Point, MT), Elick O. (McClusky, ND), Julia (Mrs. Rex Oliver, McClusky, ND), Nellie and Leonard (Willmar, ND).
S.Lawrence attended rural schools and high school and for a year was a student in Willmar College, MN, and Humboldt College, IA. At age 18 he went to work at the First National Bank at Twin Valley, MN, a year later went to Hope State Bank of Hope, ND, and for three years was teller at the Second National Bank of Minot, ND. Next he was assistant cashier of the German-American State Bank at Balfour, ND, and on 1 Apr 1910 left to become cashier of the Flasher Bank at Flasher, ND, and for a year-and-a-half was connected with banking at Kenmare, ND.On 6 Oct 1916, he arrived in Wolf Point, MT, and worked as cashier at Farmers Bank, which became the First National Bank in 1917 when Mr. Kleve became vice president.
On 19 Jul 1909, Balfour, ND, Mr. Kleve married Miss Elizabeth Parmenter, born 14 Jan 1885, daughter of Almon W. and Elizabeth(Sea) Parmenter.Kleve children: Almon Lawrence and Horace Edward.
