Hello Barbara,I am very interested in your message as my Klingenberg family lived in Hamburg, Danzig/Gdansk, Estonia and South Russia before immigrating to the USA. We look more Scandinavian than German. Johannes my 3rd greatgrandfather was born about 1795.One son, Gottlieb, was born in Estonia and my 2nd greatgrandfather Johannes Cornelius was born in 1828 in West Prussia. I hope we can find a connection. You did not give the name of the person speaking regarding your family history -- the one born in 1723, the son of Johannes. A lot of battles were being waged and borders changed in the 1760's and military personnel were sent to other countries of course. Many were invited to colonize Russia in the 1760's at the invitation of Czaress Catherine the Great of Russia. Some of my ancestors, the Burghardts/Burkarts, were in the first wave and went to the Volga region in 1767. The Klingenbergs went in a later European exodus in the 1850's. Hoping to hear from you.
