thank you very much for your interesting information about the name Klingenberg. I am mayself very interested in this family as my wifes forefathers were called Klingenberg.
My wife is from Finland and shortly after my wifes ancestors settled in Finland they changed their last name to the name of the farm where they lived. This was quite typical in Finland in those days.
They probably came from Sweden to Finland so following your story this must mean that they came from the north german Klingenbergs. Furthermore it is quite clear that they were soldiers.
The oldest information I have this Klingenberg family is: ANDERS AXELSSON KLINGENBERG/OJALEHTO born 01-11-1713 place unknown died 16-03-1779 Kärsämäki, Finland
married 19-02-1744 and/or 29-04-1744 Soderala, Gavleborg, Sweden with CHIRSTIN JONASDR born 09-06-1709 place unknown died 22-04-1776 Kärsämäki, Finland
children 1. JONAS, born 03-12-1744 Haapavesi, Finland , died 15-04-1815 Kärsämäki, Finland 2. ALEXANDER, born 31-01-1747 Haapavesi, Finland , died 02-02-1747 Haapavesi, Finland 3. ERICK, born 02-08-1752 Haapavesi, Finland , died 25-11-1786 Pyhäjärvi, Finland
Any information on the origin of this Anders and his father Axel or Alexander would be welcome.
