Dear Bill, Found your 2/6/01 message on Kluge / geneology.com this morning.
My grandfather was Franz (or Frank) Joseph Kluge, born in 1876 in Potsdam, Prussia, the sixth of ten children. His father worked at the Potsdam castle of Frederick III (Frederick the Great?) and married the Queen's seamstress. When Bismark fought the Franco-Prussian (1870-1871) War he entered the Army. Frank Kluge left for America at age ?17 with his mother and younger siblings and settled in Buffalo, where my father Frank Charles Kluge was born. In a 1940 article about the German General Staff in LIFE magazine with quarter page pictures, we were surprized to see a picture of Field Marshall Guenther von Kluge. He looked very similar to my father, but about 10 years older, perhaps his first cousin. In 2000 we visited the home/castle grounds of Frederick the Great in Potsdam and found about 12 Kluges in the phone book.We were on our way to the Passion Play and didn't have time to contact them.
I go about this geneology work sporadically! Best regards,David Noel Kluge, MD
