I am the 4th great granddaughter of Michael Klugh. His daughter Rachel married 1st Daniel Railsback and 2nd John Carter of Culpeper Co., VA.My ancestors, Rachel and John, eventually ended up in Montgomery Co., TN where they died.
Can anyone tell me anything about John Carter's parents? There are only about 50,000 John Carters and they all seem to have lived in Virginia!
Two references that I have are:
In Book 1, Page 33 for Culpeper Co., VA and in Deed Book 88, Page 268 dated 30 Dec 1825 there is a "Power of Attorney from John Carter of County of Montgomery, State of Tennessee formerly of Culpeper to recover for him in his name any legacy or interest in the estate of my late father-in-law, Michael Klugh, dec. and in the estate of Reuben Klugh, dec'd, in both of which estates I claim an interest having intermarried with Rachel, the daughter of said Michael and sister of said Reuben Klugh..."
In the "Virginia Genealogist" Vol. 1:96 and Vol. 4:94 there is a query from Miss Jennie Allensworth, Memphis, TN which states:'KLUGH-CARTER: Whom did Michael Klugh marry? His will was proved 24 Sep 1812, Madison Co., VA.He had children: Elizabeth, Sarah, Rachel, Eleanor, Humphrey, John, Jamima, Reuben, and Rhoda.'
Does anyone have a reference that Michael Klugh married Elizabeth Fisher?
I hope someone can help me with John Carter's parents.
