Greetings everyone, Here's a bit of information on my KLUEY/KLUGH/Von KLUGE family info.Awhile ago I'd discovered that somehow after emmigrating to the Morrison Twp. of Muskoka Dist., Ontario, Canada from Prussia that the name of "KLUGH" got eventually changed to "KLUEY" by at least two of the newly Canadian sons.Or maybe the census takers misspelled it, I'm not certain.
Mr. KLUGH(b. 1820's or 1830's) & Wilhemina "Minnie" CONRAD (b. about 1830) were married at some point in Prussia, moved to Canada and their first child was said to have been born either on the boat coming over, or right afterwards.KLUGH left his family sometime after his last son was born, in about 1864, but before the 1871 census. ---children according to the 1881 census: KLUGH, Joseph; 24 yrs; Born in ON; Lutheran; German descent; Labourer KLUGH, William; 23 yrs; Born in ON; Lutheran; German descent; Farm Labourer KLUGH, Mary; 20 yrs; Born in ON; Lutheran; German Descent KLUGH, Samuel; 19 yrs; Born in ON; Lutheran; German descent; Farm Labourer KLUGH, David; 17 yrs; Born in ON; Lutheran; German descent
According to the 1871 census the mother was going by her maiden name "CONRAD", that's why it took me quite a while to find her on the census. In the notes section it even says that "husband left her years ago" indicating to me that it was likely very close to when David was supposed to have been born.Side note:Does anyone have a Minnie or Wilhemina Conrad married into their family?Just wondering if she may have remarried but not as a KLUGH or KLUEY. Now, I'm a 'KLUEY' and as far as I can figure, at some point Joseph changed his name along with his brother William because they married KETCH/KEETCH sisters (Susan and Josephine respectfully) and the marriage certificates indicate "KLUEY", the name I have now, not KLUGH. I've also seen "KLUE" in the Ontario vital stats for marriages in the similar area (between 1890's and 1910's) and think that maybe Samuel or David may have changed their name too and that perhaps these "KLUE" folk are cousins, but I'm still investigating that. I was also chatting with my uncle, a Kluey, and he asked if I had found out much about Field Marshall Von Kluge of the 3rd Riche in Germany.I said, "What?? Who??", and he told me about some 3rd or 4th cousin of ours who was a Nazi and who's last name was Von KLUGE, which almost turns me full circle because that was the name I was looking for originally for my ancestors anyways.(sigh)How would I, or can I, look up that kind of information about an officer in Germany in WW2? I don't know why the name has changed so much, likely will not know. If you are connected via KLUGH or KLUEY or KLUE or Von KLUGE, or any of these names sound familiar please let me know.I'm desperate for clarification or at least some knowledge of European cousins. I'm also very interested in my CONRAD family that stems from my ggg-grandmother.Where did she come from?Who was her family? Sorry for the long email. If you have any queries about Joseph's descendants, I have managed to keep some pretty good records of that. The other siblings I'm not too sure of. Take care, Melissa KLUEY Delta, BC
