Knight, 72, of Sandusky, passed away on early Thursday evening, Nov. 3, 2011, after a brief illness. Charles was born May 12, 1939, in Akron, Ohio, son of the late Paul L. and Marguerite (Schenberger) Knight. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1957 and attended Ashland University. In his early years he was employed by United Press International and retired from the Ashland Times Gazette as their head Photo Journalist after 32 years of dedicated service. Charles also taught photography for the art department of Ashland University for 27 years. Throughout his career, Charles was the recipient of numerous photo journalism awards. Charles attended The Chapel in Sandusky. He was a member of the Camping Critters, and after his retirement spent time traveling the country with his wife Sandy and their dogs in their RV. Charles is survived by his wife Sandra (Welty) Knight, whom he married April 2, 1965; two sons, Kevin (Jo) Knight of Hooksett, N.H., and Kyle (Kristina) Knight of Sandusky; four grandchildren, Adam, Ben, Matt and Shelby; one sister, Sally Jo (Knight) Depler of Westerville, Ohio; and several other relatives. Including his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two grandchildren in infancy; and his in-laws, Lee and Gerry Welty. A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at The Chapel. Pastor Dave Brown will officiate. A private family burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery.
