Services at Cooper for John Knodel, 78
John Knodel, a long time resident of Franklin township, passed away early Sunday morning, Jan. 26.He was born March 24, 1858, and lived 78 years.In his earlier life, Mr. Knodel spent his years on a farm southwest of Cooper, but in later years he made his home with his son, Ivan Knodel, in Cooper.He leaves eight children and many neighbors and friends to mourn his death.The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the cooper M.E. church, with Rev. Thomas in charge.Burial made in the Franklin township cemetery.
John Knodel, son of John and Christine Knodel, was born in Ohio, March 24, 1858, and passed away in Cooper, Iowa, January 26, 1936, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 2 days.He moved with his parents to Monroe, Wisconsin, when he was a small boy and there he grew to manhood.
On December 24, 1881, he was married to Kate Belle Smith.In the year 1886 Mr. and Mrs. Knodel moved to Greene county, Iowa, where they made their home. He engaged in farming for a few years and later moved into Cooper to reside.
Mr. Knodel was one of a family of six children, one sister passed away in infancy, leaving two brothers, Charles and George, who reside in Kansas, two sister, Mrs. John Kounl and Mrs. Jake Bloom of Monroe, Wisconsin.
Mr. and Mrs. Knodel were the parents of six daughters and one son, Mrs. Minnie Bye of Des Moines; Mrs. Grace Zeller of Jefferson; Mrs. Florence Bymer of Yoder, Wyoming; Mrs. Nellie Russell of Mitchellville; Mrs. Mary Marchant of Guthrie Center; Mrs. Martha Moseman of Angleton, Texas, and Ivan Knodel of Cooper.One daughter, Mrs. Lottie Knowles [sic], died in 1920.
Mr. Knodel was preceded in death by his wife on June 25, 1926, leaving to survive his son and daughters [missing text] brothers and sisters, twenty [missing text] children, eight great grandchildren[missing text] side other relatives and ma [missing text]He was a lifelong Christian[missing text]

Obituary of Mrs. John Knodel
Mrs. Kate Knodel was born in Gre[illegible] county, Wisconsin [illegible] 1865, and died at Cooper, Iowa, June 25, 1926, at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 18 days.On December 14, 1881, Mr. and Mrs. Knodel were united in marriage and came to Cooper to make their home.Here the family grew and the home was made with the growing friendship found, by the passing of years.To this union was born eight children, seven girls and one boy.Mrs. Knodel has been in poor health for a number of years and passed to the great home above on the 25th of June, 1926, she was preceded in death by Mrs. Lottie Knowles [sic] and leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, Mr. John Knodel, Mrs. Minnie Gibson, of Des Moines; Mrs. Grace Zeller, of Cooper; Mrs. Florence Rymer, of Torrington, Wyoming; Mrs. Nellie Russell, of Mitchelville, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Marchant, of Chicago; Mrs. Martha Moseman, of Gonzales, Texas and Ivan Knodel, of Cooper and one brother, Joel Smith, of Uplands, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Chas. Wiggins, of Cooper, several grand children and one great grandchild, beside hosts of other relatives and friends.The funeral was held the M.E. church at Cooper, on June 27, 1926, services conducted by the Rev. Lawson, of Madrid, Iowa, assisted by Rev. Hawn of the local church.Burial in the Franklin Township cemetery.
