Dear Melissa, George Washington Knopsnider was my great-grandfather.I have a copy of his death certificate, and according to the informant (his son, George,Jr.) his parents were Ahimas Knopsnider and Lucinda Eutsey.I have access to the census records right now, but haven't been able to find any record of Ahimas and Lucinda together.I'm wondering whether George was an illegitimate child.I've continued to find an Ahimas with a wife Martha (and I even have been to their gravesite), but I couldn't be sure this man was the same one listed as my great-grandfather's father. My records have George being born in 1853.His mother Lucinda is listed on the 1850 census at home with her parents at a listed age of 13, and then she is listed on the 1860 census twice on one page (I believe they are both her): at home with her parents (listed as age 20) and two houses down with her husband Abraham Shupe (she's listed here as age 21)with whom she eventually had 3 children. An even more interesting twist is that my information shows that this Abraham Shupe later married Amanda Hoover (and had 4 or 5 children).Amanda Hoover is the sister of Elizabeth Hoover who became the wife of George Washington Knopsnider. My grandmother was the 17th child of George Washington Knopsnider. She was Bessie Evelyn Knopsnider Tressler Franks. I'm so glad to find someone else trying to track down Ahimas Knopsnider and especially his being the father of George. I found Ahimas listed on a census page (I don't have the info with me right now) as Himas Nopsnyder with his wife Martha.I can copy out any census pages you would like and mail them to you with transcription pages if you wish.
