William Brown Knott was born 1838 at St Margaret's at Cliffe, Kent, the son of William Brown Knott and Sophia Dixon (d. 1847). He was my great grandfather. In 1866 he married Harriet Ann Wellard at St Margaret's and subsequently they moved to Dover. W B Knott jr was a seaman on the cross-Channel packets. Family tradition has it that he was killed by a train on the quayside either at Dover or Calais. This must have been late 1880 or early 1881. But no record of his death or confirmation of the alleged circumstances has been found. Does anyone out there know anything?
