Everything I know about Gideon A. Knowlton, I learned from the Internet.Information about him as a Methodist minister can be found at search engines such as Google by typing in: "Gideon A. Knowlton" + Methodist
I found that he was an itinerant preacher during the last several years of his life.He was originally from Connecticut, a laborer in interior New York and helped to organize the first Genesee Conference in the Methodist Church. I also learned that he was punctual and attended to people even in stormy weather. His dying words are also recorded at a couple of sites.
About his family, I know very little. If he had any male offspring through a male lineage, it would be interesting to see if there are any male Knowltons who would be willing to be tested for Y-DNA to see if they are related to the original immigrant, William Knowlton through the Thomas Knowlton line.
I am related presumably through Gideon's daughter Lydia who married John Basinger but I have no proof of the marriage of Gideon to Mary (Polly) Hayden either, except that I found a pedigree online that shows their marriage as November 22, 1781 in New Hartford, CT.Someone may have that proof. I guess it makes sense that they would have a daughter, Lydia Smith Knowlton named after Gideon's late wife, and a daughter, Mary named after Mary Hayden, the second wife and mother of both girls.I would also like to know more about any sons.
