Orville Kenneth Knutson, 84, of Windom, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital, McAllen, TX.
Born Sept. 30, 1922, in Chritiana Township, Jackson County, he was the son of Obert and Imis Oakland Knutson.He married Yvonne Swenson April 30, 1955.
He graduated from Windom High School in 1940.After marriage, they lived on the family farm until 1990, when he retired.For 26 years, he sold Cenex Seed.They continued to live on the family farm, spending winters in Alamo, TX.He was a lifetime member of the American Lutheran Church, Windom, where he ushered from 1957 to 1990, was a deacon from 1973 to 1979, was instrumental in the Skylight Court area and elevator at the church.He is best known for his involvement in politics, and was the DFL treasurer for 36 years, Humphrey Committee from 1948 to 1976, treasurer for George Mann for 22 years and attended the National Convention in New York in 1976.He was a member of the Jackson County Fair Board from 1983 until just recently, ran the DFL food stand at the fair for years, was a member of the museum in Lakefield from 1977 to 1992, was a member of the ASC in Jackson County for 23 years, was senior citizen of the year in Jackson County in 1995 and received the Good Neighbor Award from KEYC-TV in Mankato in 1998.
Surviving are his wife; two children, Mary (Scott) Beckel, Jackson, and Kevin Knutson, Windom; a sister, Iola Janssen, Windom; three grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at the American Lutheran Church, Windom.The service will be 10:30 a.m. today at the American Lutheran Church, Windom with the Rev. Stephen Norby and the Rev. Terry Frovik officiating.
