It is believed that Joseph Koger of Germany was the first of his line to come to South Carolina.Believed to have been born in 1705, passed away in the 1780's he entired America via Charleston, SC. His wife's first name was Eve, maiden name unknown. Joseph first lived in the area of Beaufort, SC then moved on to the Colleton area.Joesph and Eve had 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters.
The oldest son was Captain Joseph Koger, born Sept 25, 1749, passed away Feb. 11, 1835.He married Mary Cook of Connecticut. Mary was born Nov. 26, 1754 passed away June 23, 1824.Captain Koger served under Francis Marion. What was Captain Koger's farm is now in modern Dorchester County. My impression is Captain Koger and his wife were buried on their land but somehow their tombstone is now on the Colleton County side of the Edisto River, off of SC 61, Gruber Cemetery.
