The first Joseph Koger is said to have arrived in South Carolina from Germany in the 1730's.Some researchers mention documents found in Schresheim, Baden, Germany.
It seems to be agreed he was born in 1705.Some indicate he passed in 1783; others believe he passed in 1793.
He is thought to have married a Miss Lemacks and some researchers indicate her first name was Eva.We don't know where the final resting place of either is located.
Among their children was a son Joseph Kogershown by some as Joseph Koger, Sr.His tomstone is located in the Gruber Cemetery near SC 61 in Colleton County, SC.He was born 25 Sept 1749 and passed away 15 February 1835.His tombstone indicates his wife was Mary Cook, daughter of Wilson Cook of Conneticut.He was a veteran of the American Revolution. (Among his children was a daughter Eva Maria Koger who apparently passed away young.)
The third Joseph Koger, often shown as Joseph Koger, Jr.was born 21 October 1779He had the tombstone mentioned above erected in the late 1830's before moving to Mississippi.He passed away there on 25 August 1866.
