I am looking for all descendants of Johann (John) Kohl & Barbara Gerstner Kohl who emigrated from Bavaria to Milwaukee in 1845 and settled in Washington County Wisconsin (St Lawrence and Slinger area) sometime after the 1850 census but before the 1860 census.I am related to their youngest son Edward, and have many of my cousins’ names from that branch.Edwards’s siblings and their descendants have long been a mystery in our family.
Edward’s siblings include: · Charles born 1835 in Bavaria · George born 1838 in Bavaria · Joseph 1841 in Bavaria · Clementina 1844 in Bavaria · John born 1845 in Wisconsin · Meary, Mary, or Maria born 1848 in Wisconsin · Fred born 1851 in Wisconsin, believed to be the one who married Anna Heim · Louis born 1853 in Wisconsin *The dates were calculated from ages noted in census records.
Charles stayed in the Slinger area and married Francis Scharer-Maier in 1862.Their children that I know about are: John born 1863 Mary born 1864, Anna Kohl born 1867, Joseph Kohl born 1869, and Anna Barbara born 1877.Charles’ son Joseph married Bertha and had Harry in 1911, Frieda in 1912, and Gertrude in 1913.
Joseph is well documented: he moved to Marshfield in 1880.He served in the Union Army during the Civil War, and had nine children, one son moved to San Antonio.I believe his wife’s name was Margaret Nunier.I have not found the names of all their children.
Frederick may be the one who married Anna Heim; they had a child name Rosa in 1882.I’m not sure my Fred is the one married to Anna, because I found a Fred and a Louis living at the same address in 1889 and 90 in the Milwaukee Directory.
Edward stayed in the area and married Elizabeth Fries. They had five children:Joseph A., Theodore, Peter, Anton, and Lizzie.
I’d appreciate any information you might have on these individuals.
Also, I believe Johann Kohl was brothers with Frederick Kohl of Kohlsville, since their names and those of their children appear on the same ship’s list of passengers:Ship Elizabeth Dennison arrived in the Port of New York, Aug 29, 1845 from Hamburg. Both families listed Wiskonsin (sic) as their destinations.Frederick’s family is well documented in a book by Kenneth Kohl in the West Bend Public Library.
