"Ionilla Koob was born on April 25, 1910, in Iona, Minnesota to Joseph and Pauline Wermerskirchen Koob.She grew up in Iona and graduated from St. Columba High School in 1927.She continued her education at Mankato State Teachers College, earning her teaching certificate in 1930 and then completing her degree in 1965.She taught elementary school for over 40 years, first in country schools then in Reading, Minnesota and then in Marshall, Minnesota.She retired in 1973, and moved back to Iona.In September 2000, Ionilla became a resident of the Slayton Manor. She moved into Our House, Hospice Home, in Slayton in December 2002, and passed away there on January 2, 2003, at the age of 92.She was a member of St. Columba Church in Iona, Minnesota where she had served as bookkeeper, and belonged to the Catholic Daughters, and had served as second regent and treasurer.Ionilla was a life time member of the National Education Association, the Minnesota Education Association in Worthington and Marshall.Ionilla's favorite pastimes included corresponding and reading.
Survivors include four brothers, two sisters and their spouses:Aloy Koob, Iona, MN; Cy and Olivia Koob, Slayton, MN; and Quirinus and Evelyn Koob, Worthington; Nita Thompson, South San Francisco, CA; Joseph and Ellen Koob, Somerset, OH and Bernetta Koob, Iona, MN and sister-in-law Loretta Koob, Slayton.She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melchoir and Hilary J. Koob and one sister Suzanne Ottilie.
Funeral services were held at St. Columbus Church in Iona, MN on Sunday, January 5, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Mark McNea officiating.The organist was Sharon Lais.The song leader was Jeanne Hentges.The pallbearers were her nephews.Interment is at St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, MN.In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials."
