I have sent a personal e-mail to Brenda Cheek, but will correspond and share with anyone.Yesterday was annual service at Shofner's Lutheran Church, where Koonces and Cruses are buried.I lump them together because they intermarried. The following is from the tombstones. TJ Koonce, 2/18/1845-12/5/1905 was married twice. Julia, 6/9/1851-12/5/1882 and Elizabeth 4/25/63-10/7/1906.My g-g-grandparents are there--B Koonce 1/6/1815-5/21/91 was married to Lydia Womble 8-23/1818-5/12/1871. My grandmother said TJ and B were brothers, and that TJ went by "Tom." B stood for "Blackman" (my middle name) and he actually went by "B". B and Lydia's daughter Bettie married Mose Cruse (son of Capt. Jacob Cruse and Elizabeth Smith), and they were my father's maternal grandparents. Bettie's brother George also married Mose' sister Mattie. One of George and Mattie's descendants sent me a hadwritten history that says B and Lydia Womble were married in VA and moved to TN. Later, her family moved to Chestnut Ridge in Lincoln Co. TN. The Cruse's were also from Lincoln Co., and when Jacob was killed at Chickamauga during the War, Elizabeth married a man named "Loyde" and lived there near Shippman's Creek and Shofner's Church, being buried there.I did not see those graves, but did not really look.
