William Edward Koonce, 86, a retired electronic technician, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Burial will follow in the Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Laurel Land Funeral Home.

William was born Jan. 14, 1921, in Sandel. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1946. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, serving on the USS Vestal and participated in many Pacific campaigns throughout the war. William achieved the rank of Chief Boatswain's Mate. He married Mabelene Skinner on May 14, 1945, in Hornbeck. They moved to Fort Worth in 1947. William retired from General Dynamics in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Fort Worth.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Cityview Care Center and Odyssey Hospice for their thoughtful concern and care. William was preceded in death by his parents, Murrow and Emily Koonce; sister, Lillian Bridges; brother, John J. Koonce; and daughter, Wenelle Power.
He is survived by his wife, Mabelene Koonce; daughters, Barbara Kennedy and husband, Benson, Gyrene Kennedy and Sheri Knotts and husband, Mark; son-in-law, Jerry Power Sr.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with a 16th on the way; and extended-family members and friends.
