Hi Dan,
I am sure we are somehow related. My husband's grandfather Alfred who came to NY from Ihlienworth always told the story of his brother Georg losing the family farm after 400 years of Kopfs having lived there. Here is the info I have:
Alfred Theodore Kopf b. 1906 in Ihlienworth had the following siblings: Emil b. 1909, Georg b. 1896, Erwin b. 1913, Richard b.1900, Erna b. 1898, Lena b. 1897, Ernst b. 1903.
They are the children of Margaret Luca and Wilhelm Kopf (b. 7July 1871, d. 1942).
Wilhelm is the son of Mathias Kopf b. 17 Aug 1830, d. 1920. The story goes that Mathias hung himself when he thought he'd lived long enough.
Mathias is the son of LaFranz Kopf b. 13 Sept 1794, d. 21 Mar 1883.
LaFranz is the son of Heinrich Kopf b. 27 Nov 1763 and Hedwig Wolbern.
Heinrich is the son of Heinrich b. 1 Aug 1734
And Heinrich is the son of Christian Kopf b. 1700.
Alfred got all of this information on one of his trips back home to Ihlienworth. He got it at the church - our Kopfs are all Lutheran. As you can probably tell, he wasn't that interested in the women of the Kopf family!I think all of the information is readily accessible in Ihlienworth -I just haven't gotten there yet!If you can make any connections, I would love to see them.Where did your family live when they came to the US?Three of Alfred's brothers came to the US - all to NY except Emil who went to MA.Good luck, and please let me know if you find anything!Thanks!-marybeth
