Johann Kopitzki b. abt. 1727, George Kopitzki b. June 25, 1764, d. April 7, 1840, and Johann Kopitzke b. Nov. 3, 1793, and d. Dec 16 1881, all lived in a narrow 20-mi. strip near the Baltic Sea. One source says village of Ostrau, 1/2 mi. from sea.Karwen, Karwenbruch, Karwenhof, and Ostrau were probably all part of one estate.The village Krokaw just south of there is one of the oldest in Polish Pomerania, an old Kashubian village.The Kopitzkis may have descended fromt he Kashubes, a tribe of Pomeranians.One source says Johann Kapitsky the Secondwas a Polish Count and "When Poland staged her last revolt against her conquerors in 1848, he must have had a hand in it, for he chartered an English ship (Julia) and brought a colony of Poles and Germans over to our country, settling in northeastern Wisconsin."I have thousands of names for this family line.
