There is a city called Poznan in Poland. It is in a different part of Poland than the known locations I am researching, at least several hundred miles away. It is of course still possible that the families are connected, although separated by several generations at least. On the other hand, the town of Posen in Germany is today near the Czech border, and probably too far from Poland for there to be any connection with the family I am researching. I believe that Poznan in Poland was in what was the German part of Poland up until the end of WWI, which only confuses the facts further. Moreover, the names you have listed from the 1882 passenger manifest appear more German than Polish (or Slavic). Perhaps the names of the Krantz members in the 1900 census would shed some light. Please forward them to me if you think there may be some connection.
