The answer is probably somewhere in Moundridge, KS -- small town by McPherson -- pretty much everyone there is Mennonite, which is kinda like Amish but not really the same.I'll check the tree for a Bernard when I get back home.Short of it is we came over in the 1860s to escape religious persecution and get some land of our own (being a Mennonite was a hanging offense, the tolerated us only because we're exceptional farmers, and could produce crops on previously unproductive lands). We first settled in North Dakota, but the winters were brutal so we treked to Kansas...our claim to fame is that we were one of the families that brought with us the Winter Wheat (a more durable crop, the only kind of wheat anyone grows anymore, is what makes the Midwest the breadbasket of the world)
