In researching the 1880 census of Alabama for the city of Tuscumbia, I have found three Kroeger families.
(1) Henry Kroeger age 59, gardner, born in Oldenburg and his son Matt age 14 born in Ohio.
(2) Bernhard Henry kroeger age 32 born Hanover, working as fireman on railroad; his wife Catharine age 26 (nee Carls),born Wisconsin; his son Anthony age 6 (aka John George) born Alabama; his son August age 4 born Alabama; his son William age 1 born Alabama; and his brother Benjamin age 21 born Ohio.
(3) John A. Kroeger age 54,farmer, born in Prussia; his wife Frangrica (not sure of name) age 44 born in Bavaria; his daughter Catharine age 20 born in Indiana; son John A. age 15 born in Indiana; his daughter Heding (?), age 13 born in Indiana; and daughter Clara age 5 born in Indiana.
Some of this may interest you since you had mentioned a Benjamin in your previous message.I have a feeling that Bernhard Henry may be the Henry you mention in your message particularly since it looks as though he named his first child John George after his father, an old German custom. It appears that they called him Anthony, however, after Catharine's father Anton. If you have any dates of birth for any of the people mentioned in your message you may be able to find a connection. Please let me know if any of the above is helpful. My next step is to look at the 1890 census for Alabama and Tennessee, if they are available.
