My husband grandmother was Anna Maria Kryza who immigrated from (what was then) Gdansk/Danzig Poland a little before 1900.Anna Maria was born in Poland and was about 7-9 years old when the family came to the Detroit, Michigan, area. There were about 3-4 older children, and she was the youngest then. Many more were born in the USA once they came. Her father was John Kryza. They lived on Grandy or Granby St. and owned a livery service that operated into the mid-1900's for horse-drawn fancy funerals. The youngest child in this family, Julia, still lived in the family house on this street into her 90's and my mother-in-law visited her (her aunt) in the late 1980's. Anna Maria married Calcedonio Grech, a merchant sea man, and they had only one child, my mother-in-law, Mary, before Anna Maria died (around 1932).Anna Maria was a little older than Calcedonio. She is buried in the Mt Olive (?) Cemetery in Detroit.
I don't know if this is any relation to your Krysa, but it is a rare name and the family was leaving Poland about the same time as your relative...and Anna Maria is the same name as your mother...perhaps it was a family name.
