Family tradtion says that the KUNZ siblings came to America together after the War between the States. I believe that they are the children of Johann Jakob Kunz and Elisabethe Phillipena Brenner of Oldenberg, Germany. Their names were: Julius, Julia, Phillapena, Charles(b. 1835), Louis(b.1838), Christian (b.1845), and Carolina (b.1840). It is said that Julius KUNZ returned to Germany, for he missed his home country.
My subject of interest is: Caroline KUNZ, b. March 11, 1840 in Germany/Prussia and died Sept 15, 1911 in Jackson, Madison County, TN.
Before immigrating to the U.S.A., Carolina KUNZ had a son, Eduard Christian BENZ about 1862 with Christian BENZ. By 1867 she is married to Peter BAKER/BECKER (b. about 1830 in Prussia)and has a son named Louis BAKER, who was born in KY. In 1869, she has a son, Jacob BAKER, born in IN. In 1878, son Chris BAKER is born in IN.
She is listed in the 1870 census of Warrick County, Ohio in the Ohio Township of Newburgh, with her husband Peter BAKER, who was a coal miner and was from Prussia, with an additional child, Cate BAKER (b. about 1857 and born in Ohio). The 1880 census of Warrick County Ohio has her listed as the head of household and Peter BAKER, and his daughter Cate are missing from the census. By 1900, she had moved to Madison County, TN with her younger brother, Christian KUNZ, and her sisters Julia KUNZ (who married a Blackard/Blackert) and Philippena KUNZ (who married a Hannebuth).
Family tradition says that the BECKER name was changed to BAKER by the "brothers" who operated a bakery. Family tradition also says that many of the "BAKERS' worked on the railroad. It has also been said that Peter BECKER/BAKER made many return trips to Germany where he eventually stayed.
I need a marriage date for the union of Caroline BENZ/?KUNZ and Peter BAKER. I also need a death date and place of burial for Peter Baker. I beleive that the decendents of Charles KUNZ and Louis KUNZ may still reside in the Ohio River Valley region of the United States of America and would like to find thier decendents.
If anyone has any information on any of the individuals mentioned, that you would like to share, please feel free to contact me. Thanks.
