DNA A descendant of George Adam (Keicher) Kiker (b. 1754 PA) with the surname Kiker and a descendant of Conrad Keicher, SR (born about 1750 probably in Germany) with the surname Kyker recently had the results returned from Family Tree testing service (http://www.familytreedna.com).
From the 25 marker test, the results clearly showed that the two tested, share a common ancestor. This probably means that George and Conrad were brothers. Establishing this connection was the one of the main reason for this test.
We would like to encourage the several variations of Keicher/Kiker/Kyker and possibly Kiger males to join in by being tested to discern if there is a common Ancestry. The testing site mentioned above is easy to use and educational. The two tested were found to be in Haplogroup "R1b". This haplogroup is most common along the western coast of Europe (Scotland, Ireland, England and parts of Germany) and interestingly, is the most common marker of the Basque people in Spain.
We are very interested in the results internationally . . . especially if there is "traditional" paper Genealogy that can be associated. We have located Keichers in Germany, Kikers in Slovenia and Scotland.
One of the major goals of this project is to locate the region of Europe that the Kikers came from during the mid 1700's. Also, it would be most helpful if Keichers/Kikers in Europe would participate. Please respond to this board or direct correspondence to my e-mail if you have an interest in participating in this project. OR, if you know someone with one of these surnames in Europe, contact with them would be helpful.
The test is painless and takes 4 - 6 weeks to get results. The prices are "reasonable" and the 12 marker test would work for many although the 25 marker test is recommended. There is also a 37 marker at this time.
The Kiker tested descends from George Adam’s son Benjamin Franklin Kiker b.1794. The Kyker tested descends from Conrad’s son Joseph Kyker b. 1779.
