Ms. ANNETTE KYNE, Cloboo, County Galway, Ireland, etc., _________________________________
IN THE MATTER OF :
Kynes in Canada, etc.,
My name is David A. Kyne. I live in Québec. I am an law student. I can supply some adfditional information with regard to your interest in Kyne's in Canada.
In the first instance, my father is Eugene A. Kyne. He was born in Galway in 1929. He and his family lived in Woodquay, near the river and the canal. He had three other brothers and a sister. His father was Michael Kyne, an sergeant (retired) in the now (long) disbanded "RIC," "Royal Irish Constabulary." He and his three brothers, at different times immigrated to Canada betwwen 1956 and 1968.
His eldest brother, William and his twin brother Michael immigrated to Canada in 1956 and 1968, respectively. My father immigrated to Québec in 1959. William and Michael are now deceased. My father lives in retirement in Québec. His sister, Mary, still lives in the family home in WoodQuay (number 5). His youngest brother, Vincent, lives in retirement in Roscommon town, Golf Links Road.
The family of William Kyne live in the Toronto area. If you use the "People Finder" function of "Altavista" you should find their addresses. The family of Michael Kyne is far more dispersed.Michael junior lives in St. Catherine's, Ontario, west of Toronto. He also has an sister in Winnipeg, Manitoba, another sister in Winnipeg, and an brother in an very small town "Lac du Bonnet;" about 80 miles north-est of Winnipeg. He has another brother in Victoria, British Columbia. He is an house agents. His page is "www.ferguskyne.com."And he has another brother in either Victoria or Vancouver.
Kyne's probably first came to Canada c. 1828, after the "first" famine. And they probably settled in the Ottawa area (then "Bytown") and worked in the timber trade as "cutters" (lumberjacks). Kyne's probably also arrived c. 1840, after the "second" famine. I would seek information in the Ottawa area with regard to Kyne's who may have settled there at that time or later. I must say however, that there are no Kyne's currently listed in the Ottawa telephone directory.
Kyne's also apparently settled in the "Kawartha Lakes" region, west of Ottawa and north-est of Toronto. The regional center is Peterborough. I was domiciled in Peterborough for an number fo years in the 1960's - 1980's. But we were the only Kyne's there at the time. And there are none there now.
In 1984, I was acquainted briefly with one Gary "Kines" who told my father and I that he was descended from the Kyne's of Headford. He lived then in an small town in southern British Columbia and had been to Ireland several times. He currently works in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, perhaps in the City of Penticton. But I do not think he is active;y researching the genealogy of his family currently. He is also Protestant.
I recall that the Peterborough Catholic Diocese within the past three years had made their diocesan record library available to an online genealogical search page put up out of Peterborough, Ontario. Some of that material may now be available on line. So you might wish to search for it.
There are also some Kyne's (two I believe), in Montréal, Québec. They are in the telephone book. You might look them up.
