I think it probably is an error.I don't show Joseph Marie & Eulalie as having a son named Charles. However, the description of Capt. Joseph LaBarge states his father had 3 sons, all of whom were riverboat capatins.
I, however, show 10 children, of which 5 are sons:Capt. Joseph Marie, John Baptiste, Antoine, Francois and Thomas.
He must have had a brother Charles though becasue in "Steamboat Captain's Wife, A Brief Biography of Pelagie Guerette La Barge" it states: Pelagie and Joseph shared tragedy in 1852, when each lost a brother in the explosion of the SALUDA at Lexington, Missouri. Joseph’s brother, Charles La Barge was first pilot on the boat, and Pelagie’s brother, Lewis Guerette was second pilot. Both were killed. I have posted the biography on www.Laberge.info
My records for Capt. Joseph Marie appear to have an error.I have 2 records for a son Charles Louis LaBarge, b. 1851.The first has him married to Louise E. Grafe abt. 1897 with 3 children: Mary Lucille b. 1902, Estelle b. 1900 and Charles L. b. 1898.The second record shows Charles Louis is married to Octavia (unknown).I have him noted as a pioneer steamboat captain and owner. They have a daughter Clara E.She marries John I. Martin.
