William Hyle Ennis
William Hyle Ennis, 90, of Success, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Walnut Ridge. He was born July 1, 1913, in Supply. He was the owner and operator of Ennis Grocery in Success; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, during which he received the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was also a member of Hubbard-Carroll American Legion in Success and a member of Rapert-Poynor VFW. He was an avid quail hunter and fisherman. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Success. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vida Spencer Ennis; his parents, Charley and Sarah Ennis; and two brothers, Hallie Ennis and Loyd Ennis. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Moore of Success; two sons, Bill Ennis of Jonesboro and Mac Ennis of Pocahontas; one brother-in-law, Jack Spencer of Doniphan, Mo.; three nieces, Sally Ladyman of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Renee Raper and Terry Selig, both of Stuttgart; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Success with the Rev. Wayne Baldwin and Bill Ennis officiating. Burial will be in the Ingram Cemetery in Maynard with full military honor guard by Promberger-Traw VFW Post 4556 from Pocahontas and under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home of Corning. Pallbearers are Joe Jett, Tim Ennis, Joel Tullos, Mark Haney, David Handwork, and Scott Tate. Honorary pallbearers are his great-grandsons. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Success or to the Corning Library.
